Why optimize?

Because you want to beat the competition and improve your bottom line! Better and more economical designs are needed in this efficiency-driven world. The conventional design process is cumbersome and can in some cases lead to uneconomical designs.

Heat Transfer Consult utilizes proven optimization methods that take the guesswork out of many stages of the design process. Optimization includes the following steps:

A high-fidelity physical model of the process or equipment with a sufficient number of relevant degrees of freedom that can be varied.
A cost-model that includes Investment, Operating Cost and Revenues. This model can be very detailed, but good results can already be achieved with a relatively simple model.
A set of operational, mechanical or other constraints. Normally, design parameters can only be varied within a limited space.
A numerical optimization software tool is required to minimize the cost function by varying the design parameters, while respecting the constraints

The result is an optimum design that minimizes the cost function. Another way to look at it is that profit is maximized.

Possible further applications:

Optimization can be applied to thermo-hydraulic calculation of piping, ducting, heat exchangers, preheat systems. But optimization can be applied in any field.
